Haarlem. Our Haarlem. When it starts to get dark, the city becomes quiet. Doors close and the lights go out. Haarlem was once a city with a vibrant night. The fact that the city now radiates emptiness after nine bears witness to the fact that Haarlem sleeps at night. Yet it’s a city of talent. When you open the right doors you are greeted by booming music, people dancing, sweating bodies. That’s the place where art is made and where the new creators of our city are given stages to take that place again. Life at night is closer than ever. Nachtdieren embraces the night. Where beauty rests in expression and where creators compete the ordinary. In this photo and film exhibition we give a podium to the artist who let the night live again. Those who fight against the big cities. Those who reconnect day and night as one.

Nachtdieren is a project initiated by Yentl Bakker (22), photographer, and Daan Kouijzer (24), director, in collaboration with STAD Haarlem for de Week van de Haarlemse Nacht.
